with Morad El Hattab , philosopher, his book : Tales of a drinker moon - Essays on Evil and Love , prefaced by Professor Raphael Draï among JM. Publisher Laffont, is already regarded by many American scholars as "one of the greatest books of the early twenty-first century th. Morad El Hattab, Literary Award winner Lucien Caroubi, Price for Peace and Tolerance , sucks that the dar al-Islam , home of Islam remains in this world dar el-Salam , home of Peace.
DR: First of all and then you are a man of peace appreciated and respected, how you feel sidelined as the establishment and the mainstream media as you require you represent largely moderate Muslims?
MEH: I am disappointed that sidelined very apparent. This does not preclude my many informal contacts with leading journalists. It seems that for some months the tone of the media and the establishment is changing: the European awareness of the rising anti-Semitism, the demise of Arafat, the resolution 1599 on Syria, the Sharon plan for Gaza, ... all these events and others are changing the tone of the "politically correct". Today, in a French society where there are signs of tension and community anti-secular claims which raise the figures of intolerance and fanaticism, I want to remind my availability and my commitment is to enable every citizen (do) the recognition of rights and duties which must be satisfied at all to live together.
DR: You're a Muslim French intellectual discourse which tries to counteract Islamic fundamentalism. Some fail to distinguish Islam as a peaceful and open approach intolerant faith. What distinction do you suggest?
MEH: must oppose the light of reason into the darkness of obscurantism and out of essentialist vision of Islam because the Qur'an is a message of peace to the soul, a call for love and the ideal of universal peace because his reading clearly notify the quest for knowledge, seeking wisdom and consideration of life as a supreme value.
DR: And the supporters of Jihad and suicide bombings?
MEH: Jihad means effort itself! An authentic hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (SBAL) said: "The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr. "Moreover, the Qur'an is intended to be" born of reflection "and" increase science "(Surah 20, verses 113 and 114), and not to produce" suicide bombers "who kill innocent people!
DR: So we're very close, are you a friend of the Jews?
MEH: I believe in the power of Jewish thought and his creative imagination where my unwavering friendship for the Jewish people. Hebrew civilization is based on the fundamental principle articulated in the Mishnah Sanhedrin: "Whoever destroys a soul is as guilty as one who would destroy the universe world and one that keeps alive a soul has the merit of one who would keep alive the entire universe. " I discovered that this text of the second-third century finds himself word for word in the Quran (S.5, v.32)!
DR: Humanity is born of having said 'no' to God, says Levinas. God talks to Abraham the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Jesus rebukes his father for abandoning him. But being a Muslim in essence "subject", the question of freedom is it not an insurmountable obstacle?
MEH: Sheikh Ali Abderraziq doctor at the University of Al-Hazar, wrote in 1925 in Islam and the foundations of power : "No religious principle prohibits Muslims to compete with other nations in all social and political sciences. Nothing prevents them to build their state and their system of government based on the latest creations of human reason and based on systems whose soundness has been proven, those whose experience of nations designated as among the best. In Islam is a total guarantee of freedom of thought of the believer, not a dogma inseparable from an autocratic regime where freedom of conscience is a myth!
DR: Islam is presented as the last prophecy, one that incorporates all the others, the first and only true religion. This superiority complex does does not it intolerance?
ME.H: "You are all from Adam and Adam is from earth. "Said the Prophet Muhammad (SBAL), more The Koran calls for respect in how to behave with others: "Remember, you are only there to remember, nothing else. You have no authority over them despotic. "(S.88, v.21-22) and" To you your religion. To me, my religion. "(S.109, v.6).
DR: You fight actively against Zionism and Judaism. Why?
MEH: In 1967 Dr. Martin Luther King wrote: "Anti-Semitism, hatred towards the Jewish people, was and remains a stain on the soul of humanity. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently antisemitic, and he always will. And he was right because this hatred of the Jew, the Israeli or Zionist is a nonsense, an absurdity which shows a dramatic crisis of the human ideal. I think the criminalization of the State of Israel is the cancer of the XXI century because Israel is not guilty of illiteracy and poverty, let alone the lack of critical thinking and democratic states that are currently Arabs and those of Eastern Europe. This "Durbanisation 'minds, is the conformism of the absurd!
DR: But the Arab world suffers the rise of Islamism, why? And what is your hope in its relations with Israel?
MEH: The tragedy of the Arab street is that it has no political culture, she knows what she wants no more objectively without expressing what she wants. The speech attracted protest, not the program because it does not exist!
Realistically, we must normalize the existence of the Jewish state with the Arab world, and this combination will trigger a process of economic, scientific, social and cultural unrivaled. I constantly stress to my Arab brothers: Israel is not our enemy, our enemy is ignorance!
DR: In your writings, you call the men to make best sweets in front of the woman. But in the Koran, man has he not rule over women?
MEH: Sura 4, the first verse, poses the feminine in its dignity as a creature equal to man. I think women awaken the human being with undying love and the feminine principle is a creative force that puts education before dominance, survival before the destruction, the values before the abstractions of experience - this are universal values that men should recognize and support.
DR: What hope can there be for the Jews cursed by Allah in the Qur'an?
MEH : fundamentalists should remember the injunction of the Prophet Muhammad (SBAL): "Anyone who harms a Jew or a Christian to find me his opponent on the Day of Judgement. "And the Holy Quran (S.2, V.62) is clear:" Those who believe, those who follow Judaism, Christians, Mandaeans, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, performs the salutary work, those then find their reward with their Lord. It is for them to fear food, and they would not feel no regret. "
DR: If an opening is possible, what "cultural revolution" tolerant Islam that you embody it must oppose the literal reading, backward and closed fundamentalists?
MEH: Know that I am sad to see the revival of censorship and inquisition, the substitution of an anathema to the argument, and murder pure and simple discussion of ideas. Islam must do its aggiornamento reinterpreting the fundamental legal principles in light of modernity and scientific evidence to suit the contemporary world.
DR: Do you think the Turkish prime minister he is the representative of a secular and open Islam or Muslim leader who will bring in Europe an Islamic conqueror?
MEH: I do not know. What worries me is that Mein Kampf Adolf Hitler figure for several weeks at the top of best-selling Turkish booksellers. Since January he has sold nearly 50,000 copies!
DR: At the upsurge in anti-Semitic, is it not reasonable to expect that some intellectuals have a responsibility, playing endlessly the burning of a synagogue by a young beur (expression of an evil being, attempt desperate for recognition ...) instead of calling an anti-Semitic bastard by his name?
MEH: Their responsibility is also significant as being anti-Semitic is not "interesting" or "revealing" or "representative" is simply proclaiming his hatred for a religion essentially ethical. Faced with these heinous acts, cowardly and despicable, I always asked for harsher penalties for perpetrators of such crimes. Anti-Semitism is still too prevalent in our society and we must eradicate it.
DR: How do you respond to those in France declared that "Jews are too much with the Holocaust?
MEH: I always think of my friend (s) Jews who survived the camps because at some point in their lives Nazi barbarism caused them to lose up to their name and identity as human beings. Totally dehumanized, they were gone, until death, the serial number etched into the flesh of their arms. Do not forget!
DR: You're the first writer in the Muslim world to have developed a working evil from Auschwitz, it tells you very close to the survivors, why?
MEH: survivors taught me that silence is the most vibrant lyrics. When I see what the survivors have given to humanity, I can only begin to imagine what might have been giving the world the millions who did not survive. I mourn their loss, until today. Their memory remains a wound that nothing will heal, what do you every fiber of my being feels their absence ...
DR: Is there anything that shocked you during the celebrations?
MEH: Unless I am mistaken, not even once the name of Israel was pronounced. I think this is very serious because this omission suggests the loss of identity of the deportees and especially remember that terrible verse in Psalms (83, 5): "... that the name of Israel, there are no more memories. "
DR: You have great affection for the philosopher Emmanuel Levinas, why?
MEH: I learned from Levinas that "the essential thing is not to invent but to realize the ideal. !
